May Is Older Americans Month, Be Happy-Connect With A Senior
Older Americans Month is commemorated every May. This year is no different and therefore the Administration for Community Living leads our nation’s observance once again.
This years theme is: Connect, Create, Contribute, and the Administration is encouraging one and all to connect, create, and contribute with and to senior citizens.
The focus of this program is to reach out to both seniors and younger people in their communities to get together and:
- Connect with friends, family, and services that support participation.
- Create by engaging in activities that promote learning, health, and personal enrichment.
- Contribute time, talent, and life experience to benefit seniors.
Several research studies show that many seniors are lonely and isolated from their surroundings. This takes a toll on both their physical and mental health.
Older Americans Month: Connect, You’ll be Happy.
Therefore, communities that reach out and encourage the contributions of older adults are stronger! By engaging and supporting all community members, you recognize that older adults play a key role in the vitality of our neighborhoods, networks, and lives.
This webpage includes suggestions, resources, and material to celebrate older Americans and their communities. Everyone benefits when everyone can participate. We encourage you to connect, create, and contribute for stronger and more diverse communities this May, and throughout the year.
By connecting with a senior, you insure their vitality and strengthen their sense of self.
Go ahead and connect — you’ll be glad you did.
